Simple Zipper Pouch
An excellent first MYOG project
The Simple Zipper Pouch is as useful as it is easy to make, and it’s an excellent first MYOG project if you are just starting out. If you’ve never made your own gear before but you can lay down a passable stitch with your sewing machine that doesn’t fall apart, you’re ready to take on this project. For those with more experience, it’s a fun and easy pattern for a simple zippered wallet / EDC pouch.

Features
The Simple Zipper Pouch doesn’t just make good practice, it’s also a handy wallet or EDC (everyday carry) item that’s easy to customize to you liking
- Ample size for credit cards, cash and change, and any small items you like to keep together in your pocket.
- Loops at the ends allow attachment of a keyring or carabiner
- Simple design is easy to make even for someone new to using a sewing machine.
- Easy to build with repurposed materials found around the house.
- Assembled Dimensions: 5.5 x 4 x 0.5 inches (14 x 10 x 1.2 cm)
Challenge Level: Beginner
This pattern makes an excellent first project for anyone starting out making their own gear. As long as you can lay down a passable stitch with your sewing machine that doesn’t fall apart, you’re ready to take this on.
Recommended Materials
The Simple Zipper Pouch can be made with a variety of new and repurposed materials. For the demonstration project I use a reusable shopping bag and a zipper salvaged from an old pair of shorts. You can also use stuff such as:
- Reclaimed material from jackets and outerwear, tarps, bags, etc.
- 200+ denier pack fabric such as EPX200, X-Pac VX21, or Cordura.
- 1 inch (2.5cm) poly or nylon webbing
New materials are readily available through online merchants like Ripstop by the Roll, Rockywoods Fabrics, and even Amazon and Ebay.
